Premium Korean Calligraphy Class in Seoul ㅡ Slow Stroke Therapy 'SEOYE'
Discover the meditative art of Korean brush calligraphy in the heart of Seoul. HOEK's Seoye class offers a program where you leave with a finished piece written entirely in your own hand — in Hangul, one of the world's most beautiful writing systems. It is a time and a space to slow down, immerse yourself in Korean traditional culture, and learn something that stays with you long after you leave.
Hanbok & Tea Time
Your session begins with dressing in hanbok, followed by traditional Korean tea and hangwa confectionery. Seated with a warm cup of tea in your hands, this is not merely a warm-up. It is the moment you step away from the pace of everyday life and settle, naturally, into a state of quiet focus — before the brush is even lifted. No knowledge of Hangul is needed. An expert guide will walk you through how the strokes are structured, what they express, and the history and philosophy behind Korean brush calligraphy — in a way that is clear and easy to follow.
Master Demonstration
Before you pick up the brush, you watch your tutor perform a live calligraphy demonstration — showing how ink, breath, and intention come together in a single stroke. This is not a tutorial. It is a moment to understand what this art can truly be.
Practice Strokes
You begin with the fundamentals. Basic strokes, the structure of Hangul characters, and the correct way to hold and move the brush. Your instructor guides your hand, adjusts your grip, and helps you find your own rhythm. The pace is entirely yours.
Write Your Piece
The heart of the session. Call to mind a word, phrase, or message you have been carrying — and write it on hanji paper, stroke by stroke, under your instructor's guidance, in Korean calligraphy. When it is finished, it will be unlike anything else you could buy or bring home from Seoul.
Seal & Wrap
Your finished scroll is completed with a custom-carved nakgwan — a personal seal made for you alone. Your piece is then wrapped in a traditional bojagi cloth, ready to carry home.
We are located in central Seoul, just 3 minutes on foot from City Hall Station (Line 1/2, Exit 7) — within easy reach of Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, Insadong, and Cheonggyecheon Stream.
